Madison Square Garden reports a significant increase in quarterly revenues, largely attributed to Harry Styles’ record-setting residency.

On Wednesday, Madison Square Garden reported its financial results for the quarter that ended on September 30 ahead of the market open that morning, as investors brace for an upcoming decline in a traditionally slow quarter. The period was marked by a diverse slate of live entertainment across the company’s venues, including a record number of concerts in any quarter at Madison Square Garden Arena.

Impressive revenue growth of 37% was driven primarily by a record number of concerts at the Garden, including 16 nights of Harry Styles’ 30-night residency during the quarter. Management attributes the robust adjusted operating income (AOI) to significant consumer demand, as evidenced by double-digit growth in per capita spending on concessions and merch at shows.

“Our business is off to a strong start in fiscal 2027,” said Executive Chairman and CEO James Dolan. “We expect our live entertainment offerings to continue benefitting from healthy demand, and we remain well positioned to drive robust growth in both revenue and adjusted operating income this fiscal year.”

MSG’s strategic focus on residencies is creating a recurring business base, and increasing visibility into such events across the entire venue portfolio will continue through 2027.

The company is also leveraging immersive technology such as that used at Sphere in Las Vegas, including Immersive Sound and real-time on-stage cameras, to enhance the value proposition and “pricing power” of the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. Fiscal 2027 expectations include a record-setting run for the Christmas Spectacular with 231 planned performances.

Management expects total event growth for the full year, with the Garden already exceeding its annual concert booking goal, while the broader portfolio is already over 80% booked. Meanwhile, the outlook for the second half of fiscal 2027 expects a recovery in theater concert volume, which is currently pacing up despite a projected decline in December.

The company anticipates generating significant free cash flow, with results impacted by technology investments and the timing of working capital reversals related to promoter payments. The potential transfer of the Infosys Theater as part of the Penn Station redevelopment is being structured to minimize tax leakage through potential reinvestment in other venues.
