Universal and Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie ever, The Odyssey, isn’t done with its stateside theatrical run and will return to 1,000 screens, including Imax and Imax 70mm, on December 11.

The Odyssey‘s return to cinemas follows in the wake of the 2-hour and 52-minute feature becoming available in homes on Premium VOD, 4K and DVD on November 17.

The pic counts $1.8 billion at the global box office, with $1.175B abroad. At $626M stateside, it’s still Universal’s second highest-grossing movie in North America behind 2015’s Jurassic World ($653.4M). The pic opened July 17 and held the No. 1 spot worldwide for two weekends. The Odyssey is the first movie to be entirely shot in Imax.

Below, a look at the records it has set so far:

— Biggest opening for director Nolan internationally and globally, supplanting his 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises.

— Biggest opening weekend for Imax 70mm domestically.

— Biggest opening weekend domestically for an R-rated Universal film.

— Biggest domestic opening weekend for a filmmaker whose previous film earned the Oscar for Directing.

— Highest-grossing film for Christopher Nolan

— Highest-grossing Universal film of all time

— Biggest R-rated film of all time globally

The Odyssey is now the 10th highest-grossing MPA film of all time globally and the second highest-grossing film of 2026 behind Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

In addition to the domestic re-release, The Odyssey continues to play internationally in all formats, where the film most recently surpassed Furious 7 to become Universal’s highest-grossing international release of all time.

Universal continues to lead all major studios and was the first studio to cross $5 billion at the global box office this year. It also was the first to cross $3 billion at the international box office.
